Six tips for remembering to take your medications

Make it obvious.  Place your medications or a written reminder some place where you are likely to see it.

Use a checklist or an organizer.   Follow a written chart or purchase a medication organizer from the drugstore.  The photo, above, is an example of one type of medication organizer.

Use an electronic reminder.  Your alarm clock, your watch or a mobile phone alarm can help remind you when it’s time to take a pill(s).

Have others remind you.  Ask others in your household, neighbors or friends to help you remember.

Don’t run out.  Keep track of when more pills are needed, and don’t wait until the last pill to re-order.

Plan before you travel:  Put a note on your luggage reminding you to pack your pills.  Carry an extra prescription with you in case your luggage is lost.
